Scientific Foundation
The IPIP-NEO is a public-domain inventory developed by Lewis Goldberg, validated in over 4,000 peer-reviewed studies. Afini.ai uses empirical percentile norms from 3 independent datasets totaling 1,461,383 respondents: Johnson IPIP-NEO-300 (145,388), Johnson IPIP-NEO-120 (619,150), and Open Psychometrics FFM (696,845 from 93 countries). Percentiles are calculated by empirical interpolation on actual score distributions, not Gaussian approximation. Unlike the MBTI, the Big Five measures personality traits as continuous spectra, not binary categories.
AI-Generated Reports
Each report is generated by AI using the test-taker's raw scores, empirical percentiles, and facet interactions. The AI analyzes how different trait combinations produce unique behavioral patterns. Reports include concrete scenarios, interpersonal dynamics, and evidence-based interpretations. Each report is unique — not filled from a template. Output: 4,000–7,000 words depending on test version.
How Afini.ai Compares

Afini.ai vs Truity: Truity uses a proprietary instrument with no published psychometric data. Afini.ai uses the peer-reviewed public-domain IPIP-NEO.
Afini.ai vs UnderstandMyself: UMM measures 10 aspects (BFAS) in English only. Afini.ai measures 30 facets in 6 languages with AI reports.
Afini.ai vs BigFive-Test: BigFive-Test is free and open source but offers minimal interpretation. Afini.ai adds AI-generated narrative reports and empirical norms from 1.46M respondents.
